Cemetery Birthday

Among the things we share is a birthday. Bunnie is the 17 of October and I'm the 18th. I turned thirty this year and decided (on suggestion of an acquaintance of Bunnie) to celebrate by a visit to Greenwood Cemetery. I like to visit the cemetery around the fall because it's one of the best places to see the leaves change in Brooklyn. October, though, is perhaps a bit to early. All the trees showed a lot of potential for color but only a few had turned to their fall hues. Despite the trees it was still great to walk around Greenwood and to peak into the old neighborhood. It's nice to think about things in quiet solace and in the company of friends.

Chile Pepper Fiesta

Last Saturday was the Chile Pepper Fiesta in the Brooklyn Botanic Garden. The sun finally reappeared after 3 drizzly days (and flash flooding in Park Slope) for a festival of music, cooking lessons and, of course, food. Beer and Chile were the obvious centerpiece foods, however, for some reason there was also a smattering of fresh pickle booths and we ended up with a pickle on a stick as a post chile snack. The flier promoting the event highlighted chocolate chile peppers and when we got to the pavilion it was soon apparent that there were several booths all serving some variant of Chocolate and spice. Quite nice and an exciting experiment in food tasting.

I hope they hold it again next year.
